Cationic Amino acid Transporter 1 (CAT1) imports basic amino acids and is also the receptor of two retroviruses. Our new structures of MmCAT1 reveal its amino acid selectivity, transport, and interactions with Friend Murine Leukemia Virus.

Cationic Amino acid Transporter

Cationic Amino acid Transporter 1 (CAT1) imports basic amino acids and is also the receptor of two retroviruses. A collaboration by the Sauer and Kessler groups at Oxford’s CMD and the Stuart group in Oxford’s Division of Structural Biology, and supported by the IM2PACT consortium, has determined the first structures of CAT1 from mouse, describing its amino acid selectivity, transport, and interactions with Friend Murine Leukemia Virus. This has important implications for understanding amino acid metabolism, cancer, and viral tropism.
