Melissa Sweeney
Postdoctoral Scientist - Structural and Chemical Biology of E3 ligases
Melissa is passionate about the importance of post-translational modifications to the tight regulation of signalling cascades in the context of disease, and the study of the varied and complex functions of E3 ligases. Her postdoctoral work investigates the structural and chemical biology of BTB-Kelch E3 ligases and identification of PROTACs for these prolific enzymes to discern how they are regulated to control growth factor signalling.
She completed her PhD at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia focusing on the characterisation of mammalian and bacterial E3 ligases within the innate immune response. Melissa is experienced in recombinant protein studies, mass spectrometry studies of post-translational modifications, biophysical characterisation of protein-protein interactions and oligomeric state via Analytical Ultracentrifugation, and Small Angle X-Ray Scattering studies of protein-protein interactions and binding regions.
Having completed a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (Higher Education), Melissa is also a dedicated and experienced biochemistry educator.
