Magda Wolna

Postdoctoral Scientist

Magda is currently a Scientist in the Cellular High Content Imaging Group led by Professor Daniel Ebner at the Target Discovery Institute (TDI), Centre for Medicines Discovery, University of Oxford.

Prior to joining TDI, she was Team Lead in the Covid-19 Serology Group at University of Oxford, performing routine screening, development and validation of the SARS-CoV-2 Serology High Throughput platforms and assays.

Magda has over 10 years’ experience working within the University of Oxford, contributing to several papers published in high impact journals. In Professor Lakhal-Littleton’s group at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics, she focused on the study of the role of hepcidin/ferropertin axis in iron regulation in the heart and the placenta, by utilising novel animal models of tissue-specific alterations in iron metabolism. Magda also worked in Professor Kim Nasmyth’s group at the Biochemistry Department, where she supported research in the field of cell division.

In addition to Magda's academic career, she has worked in industry, most recently at the UK national synchrotron facility (Diamond Light Source Ltd, Harwell), where she supported cutting edge biological experiments using synchrotron radiation Fourier-transform infrared (SR-FTIR) microspectroscopy. Her scientific activities covered several collaborative researches, leading to further publications.

Apart from science, Magda is also passionate about photography, and holds a Fellowship Distinction of The Royal Photographic Society (FRPS).
